Charlie Plumb reveals techniques of resilience needed to overcome challenges of daily life. He draws parallels between your personal and professional trials and the major problems he faced as a prisoner of war; frustration, humiliation, loneliness, feelings of failure, etc.
More restrictive than his 8 foot cell, he says is our self-imposed 8 inch cell between our ears. Rather than PTSD, Plumb emerged from a life of torture, isolation and deprivations with PTG; Post Traumatic Growth.
Learn how you can too.
Captain Charlie Plumb graduated from the Naval Academy and completed Navy Flight Training and became part of the development of “Top Gun” at Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego. Five days before the end of his tour during Vietnam, Captain Plumb was shot down over Hanoi and became a Prisoner of War. He was held in captivity for 2,103 days and now speaks around the world with stories that parallel his P.O.W. experience with the challenges of everyday life. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
